Meeting Fire Safety Standards in Your Hotel or Hospitality Business

In hospitality, a guest’s safety is just as important as their comfort and experience. And fire safety is much more than just ticking a box; it’s about ensuring every visitor, diner, and member of staff feels protected. As a long-standing manufacturer of certified fire doors for hotels, restaurants, bars and leisure venues across the UK, we at Enfield Doors understand the specific pressures hospitality businesses face, and how vital high-performing fire doors are to your overall safety strategy.

Understand the Fire Safety Order 2005

The Fire Safety Order 2005 places responsibility on a “responsible person,” usually the owner or manager, to reduce fire risk and maintain all safety measures. This applies to fire doors, escape routes, alarms and other protective systems.

Because we manufacture fire doors, frames, screens and ironmongery in-house, we’re able to support hospitality businesses in meeting these legal duties with doors that are fully certified, made-to-measure and designed for heavy, continuous use.

Our advice: Make sure you understand the full scope of your fire safety responsibilities. Fire doors must be kept in high working order at all times.

Conduct a Fire Risk Assessment

A fire risk assessment is the backbone of your safety plan. It identifies hazards, who may be at risk – including guests with limited mobility – and sets out measures to minimise danger.

We often work with hospitality clients working with their fire risk assessments, to supply doors that meet the exact fire ratings, acoustic needs and design requirements identified.

Our advice: As standard practice, review your fire risk assessment at least once a year or whenever the building layout or use changes.

Put Key Fire Safety Measures in Place

While fire doors play a central role in containing smoke and fire – especially in hotels with long corridors, busy restaurants and venues with multiple rooms – there are a number of key fire safety measures hospitality settings should also have in place. Whether hotel, resort or restaurant, make sure you have the following key fire safety measures:

  • Fire doors that close properly, are fitted with certified hardware and are regularly inspected
  • Alarm systems tested weekly
  • Emergency lighting along escape routes
  • Fire extinguishers placed strategically and serviced annually
  • Clear, unobstructed escape routes

Our advice: It’s not enough to install fire doors – they must be checked, maintained and repaired when needed. We’re always available to advise on maintenance or supply replacement doors made to match your existing profiles.

Train and Inform Your Staff

Even the most advanced safety equipment relies on people knowing what to do and how to use it.. Staff members should feel confident raising the alarm, guiding guests, and understanding evacuation procedures.

Our advice: Include fire safety training in staff inductions and offer regular refresher training to keep knowledge fresh.
